Executive Director

Skálholt's managing director is Herdís Friðriksdóttir.

​

Herdís is a forester by education as well as an MPM degree in project management and has extensive professional experience.

​

Since 2017, Herdís has run his own company, Understand Iceland, as managing director. Understand Iceland specializes in educational tours for university students and inquisitive North Americans.

​

Before that, Herdís worked as the project manager of Sesseljuhús, an environmental center in Sólheim, and earlier as an expert at Orkuveita Reykjavíkur. Herdís is married to Einar Á. E. Sæmundsen national park ranger of the national park at Þingvellir. They have two daughters together; Gudnýja Helga (b. 2002) and Þórhildi Júlía (b. 2004). Herdís and Einar are members of Skálholtstaðar and live with their family in Reykholt.
